Terms of Use

These terms explain how the Van Isle Trades Hub marketplace works and what we expect from the people who use it.

Effective date: October 1, 2026

What Van Isle Trades Hub is

Van Isle Trades Hub is an online marketplace. It helps homeowners post construction and trade work, and it helps contractors find that work and send bids.

We are not the contractor performing your work. We are not a general contractor, subcontractor, employer, agent, or insurer for any job, and we are not a party to the agreement you make with another user.

You and the contractor make your own agreement

When a homeowner accepts a bid, the agreement — scope, price, timing, materials, deposits, changes, and how payment actually happens — is between the homeowner and the contractor. Nothing on this site changes what the two of you agree.

Job posts and bids are user content, submitted by the people who post them. We display them so the marketplace can work. We don't write them, approve them, or vouch for them.

What contractors are responsible for

Every contractor on the site is an independent business. Each one is solely responsible for their own:

  • licences, permits, and registrations required for the work they take on
  • trade certifications and qualifications they claim to hold
  • insurance, bonding, and any warranties they choose to offer
  • safe work practices and conditions on the job site
  • the people and subcontractors they bring to a job
  • taxes, levies, and payroll remittances on money they earn

We don't verify licences, insurance, or trade tickets, and we don't inspect or warranty completed work. Before hiring, check the credentials and references that matter for your particular job.

Accounts and eligibility

To use the site you must be an adult able to enter a contract (in BC, 19 or older).

  • Pick the role that matches how you're using the site — homeowner or contractor — and keep your details accurate.
  • Keep your sign-in details private, and let us know about any activity on your account you didn't authorize.
  • One account per person or business per role.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account.

Rules for job posts, bids, and messages

You must give truthful information and use the service lawfully. Please don't post a job, bid, or message that is false or misleading, or that is meant to trick someone. Don't use the site to harass, threaten, or discriminate against another user. Don't post someone else's personal information, photos, or confidential material without permission. Don't collect other users' contact details for marketing, spam, or resale. Don't reach out to another user to set up an arrangement that avoids a platform fee. And don't try to break, disable, or reach parts of the service you aren't allowed to use — including another user's data.

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting, you give us permission to display and process it so the marketplace can function — for example, showing your bid to the homeowner who owns that job, and keeping a backup copy.

No guarantees

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows — including any promise that it will run without interruption or error, that a job will be filled, that a bid will be accepted, or that any work will meet a particular standard.

We don't guarantee contractor quality, pricing, availability, safety, or job outcomes. Where the law gives you rights that can't be excluded, only the parts of this section that the law allows to be limited are limited.

Disputes and concerns

If something goes wrong, tell the other party and tell us. We may look at information you share about a job, and we may remove content or restrict an account where that seems appropriate.

But we are not a construction contractor, building inspector, arbitrator, or dispute-resolution service. We can't order a refund, require a repair, judge workmanship, or act for you in a legal claim. Depending on the problem, your local authority, a licensing body, small claims court, or a lawyer may be the right next step.

Payments and fees

Online payments are not live on the public site yet. Payment features currently exist only as sandbox testing in our preview environment. No real money is collected, stored, or paid out through the public marketplace today.

If payment features launch later, separate payment, fee, refund, and payout terms will apply, and they will be shown before you can use those features. Our plan is to take a percentage when a job closes through the platform rather than charging to post a job or submit a bid — the exact fee and any payment terms will be confirmed in those separate terms, not here.

Content removal, suspension, and closing an account

We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close an account where it breaches these terms, appears fraudulent or dangerous, breaks the law, puts other users or the platform at risk, or where we're required to act by law.

Where it's practical we'll tell you what happened and give you a chance to fix it. Where there's a risk of harm we may act right away. You can ask us to close your account at any time — see our privacy page for what happens to your data afterwards.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page changes when we do. For material changes that affect people already using the site, we'll try to give notice in the app or by email. Using the site after the effective date means the updated terms apply to you.

Liability in plain language

To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for another user's conduct, for the quality or safety of work, or for losses that follow from a job going badly — including lost money, lost time, or damaged property — and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our maximum liability for the service is limited to any amount you've paid us. Today posting and bidding are free, so that amount is normally nothing.

Nothing here limits a right you have that can't legally be limited, and nothing limits liability for fraud.
