Construction jobs on Vancouver Island

Looking for paid work on a crew? This page explains where to find shifts and hire requests on Van Isle Trades Hub, and how that differs from bidding on projects.

Work for a company: shifts and hire requests

In the Skilled / General Labour section, companies post open shifts and send hire requests to workers. You create a free worker profile with your specialties, area and availability, then tell an employer you're available. Nothing is confirmed until the employer accepts.

Common specialties include general labour (no certification needed), concrete, carpentry, traffic control and flagging, excavation and trucking.

Run your own business? Bid on projects instead

If you're a contractor or owner-operator, the project marketplace is where homeowners and companies post scoped jobs for bids. See construction leads or browse open projects.

Where the work is

Shifts and workers are listed by community across the Island, including Victoria and Greater Victoria, Langford, Sooke, Cowichan Valley and Duncan, Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum Beach, Courtenay and Comox, Campbell River and Port Alberni. Use the location filter to match your area. How many shifts are open varies day to day; we only show real, upcoming postings.

Good to know

  • Listing yourself and responding to shifts is free.
  • The hiring company is the employer and is responsible for pay, WorkSafeBC and site safety.
